We are seeking a caring and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary setting in South London. You will support children across Key Stages 1 and 2 with a range of additional needs, which may include profound learning difficulties, autism, physical disabilities and associated health needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher and wider support team to help pupils access learning and take part fully in the school day. Activities are adapted to individual ability levels and may include practical, sensory and communication-focused learning.

Many of the children require significant levels of adult support and may communicate without spoken language. Previous experience of communication systems such as PECS, Makaton or other forms of AAC would therefore be beneficial, although relevant experience with pupils who have complex communication needs will also be considered.

Your responsibilities will include providing individual and small-group support, helping pupils engage with classroom activities and assisting with their physical, social and emotional needs. Depending on the pupils you support, the position may also involve personal care, mobility assistance and following individual healthcare or support plans.

You will be joining an established team of teaching and support staff who work together to provide pupils with a safe, structured and positive learning environment. The successful candidate will need to be patient, observant and comfortable adapting their approach to meet the differing needs of individual children.

This opportunity could suit an SEN Teaching Assistant who has previously worked in a special school, SEN provision or mainstream school supporting pupils with higher levels of need. Applicants from other relevant child-centred support backgrounds may also be considered where they can demonstrate suitable experience.
