Job Description

Are you a passionate History Teacher who loves bringing the past to life and inspiring young people to discover the fascinating stories, people and events that have shaped our world?

Would you love to join a welcoming secondary school in Lewisham where your creativity is encouraged, your expertise is valued and you can make a real difference to young people's lives?

-Attractive Inner London salary of £40,389–£62,560 per annum (FTE), with pay aligned to scale from day one
-Friendly, collaborative colleagues who value fresh ideas and working together
-Excellent professional learning opportunities and dedicated support to develop your career
-Exciting opportunity to help shape the History curriculum and get involved in enriching trips, clubs and school events

Martin at Education 365 is delighted to be partnering with a welcoming secondary school in Lewisham to find an enthusiastic and dedicated History Teacher for a rewarding one-year maternity-cover opportunity, starting in January/February 2027.

We would love to hear from knowledgeable, approachable teachers who bring warmth, creativity and genuine enthusiasm to the classroom, make pupils feel confident sharing their ideas and enjoy helping young people discover how the past connects to the world around them.

As a History Teacher, you will deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach Key Stage 5. You will bring historical events and different perspectives to life, encourage lively discussions, develop pupils' critical thinking skills and help every young person build the confidence to question, explore and achieve their best.

Beyond the classroom, there is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to creative schemes of work, support exciting History trips and enrichment activities and work alongside a supportive Humanities team to make learning enjoyable, challenging and inclusive. You will also have the chance to share ideas, support colleagues and play an important part in developing the wider History curriculum.

The school would love to meet qualified teachers with a relevant degree, QTS and at least three years of teaching experience. Strong History subject knowledge, experience teaching across KS3–KS5 and a good understanding of GCSE and A-level requirements are particularly valued. Confident classroom management, a positive approach to teaching and experience mentoring or supporting colleagues are also important. Familiarity with Edexcel GCSE History or AQA A-level History would be especially welcomed.

This is a full-time, one-year maternity-cover opportunity, starting in January/February 2027, with a 32.5-hour working week. For the first 12 weeks, you will work through Education 365 as an agency teacher, receiving weekly pay via PAYE or an umbrella company, at an agreed rate aligned with the school's Inner London teaching pay scale (£40,389–£62,560 per annum FTE). Following this initial period, you will transfer directly onto the school's books for the remainder of the placement, becoming part of their team under a direct employment arrangement.

You will be joining a welcoming and collaborative school community where professional development is genuinely valued, colleagues support one another and there are plenty of opportunities to contribute your ideas, grow in confidence and make a lasting difference.

Applicants should be approachable, organised and committed to inclusive education, positive behaviour and safeguarding. An enhanced DBS check and the right to work in the UK will be required.

If you are looking for a rewarding History Teacher opportunity where you can inspire young minds, share your passion for the past and become part of a supportive school community, please apply today or contact Martin at Education 365 for a friendly, informal conversation about the role.
